What To Do & How To
Make Money
When The Economy SUCKS!
I don't know about you, but I've had a pretty stressful year so far
... especially this past month or so. Now, I'm not here to talk about my personal life (that's
like a soap opera in itself, so I'll save it for another issue). After all, this is a "marketing"
newsletter, so let's stick to the subject of marketing.
But due to the recent terrorism act(s) and now all of this anthrax scare and potential "chemical
warfare" stuff going on ... adding to the already miserable economy we've had all year, things
have been somewhat "depressing" lately. There is no doubt that businesses in general,
especially the Internet, have had a VERY rough year.
Most marketers on the Net and in other newsletters may not want to admit it, but sales are
definitely lower today than they were a year ago (and at times, substantially lower). It's
much harder to get a sale these days. People have less money to spend and unfortunately, this
will DIRECTLY effect your online business, sales and profits.
It's very hard to sell something (or anything) to people who don't have money. So, what
are you to do? If you've just started an online business, how are you going to get it up and running
when "times are tough" like now? Or if you're looking to get into an online, home-based
business to supplement your current income or even replace it ... is this a good time to even
start or should you wait?
Here's My Advice ...
There have been MANY times this year where I was very confused as
to what I wanted to do with my business and my life. At times, I was working twice as hard ...
only to make half the amount of money I had made the previous year. That's no fun and it's not
good for the mind or body.
One thing I noticed is that I was worrying a LOT more than I usually do. I was always stressed
out ... moody ... grumpy and even angry at times. Anyway, I'm saying all of this and revealing
my "inner most thoughts" to you only because I don't think I'm alone and from the amount of emails
we receive daily, I KNOW many of you also feel very stressed out (at least more
than usual).
Anyway, in the next few issues I'm going to discuss different ways of getting you out of this
temporary economic slowdown and back on track. In the meantime, here's what I'd suggest:
| 1. |
First, try not to worry so much. I KNOW that's
much easier said than done. But to be honest with you, we all know things can be a lot worse.
For example, you could be diagnosed with cancer or some other illness. Or a family member
can die unexpectedly.
I hope none of these things happen and they probably won't. But my point is that things
can ALWAYS be a lot worse, so be happy that they aren't.
You know, there is a great saying that says "If you dwell on
what you don't have, you'll get more of the same!" Point is, instead of wasting
your valuable time worrying about what's gone wrong or what COULD go wrong, TRY your
hardest to put most of your mental energy on all the good things that are going on in your
life. |
| 2. |
Next, make some "ALONE" time during
the day for yourself. Put aside an hour or so and just do nothing or watch a ball game
on TV or take a nap, read a book, take a walk, go to the gym, take a long bath, etc., etc.
This alone time will make you feel whole again. Most of us are run down by the end of the
day trying to please everyone and by utilizing this time to do nothing or something you enjoy,
will go along way in healing yourself.
Plus, it'll keep you from exploding for no reason around friends and family. Let's face it,
the last thing you need to hear at the end of a long day is someone wanting you to do something
for them. It'll be much easier to give to someone else once you have FIRST given to YOURSELF! |
| 3. |
Lastly, I HIGHLY recommend you get a book called,
"How to Stop Worrying and Start Living" by Dale Carnegie (you can
get it at Amazon.com).
It's an awesome book by an awesome person. Dale Carnegie is one of the most successful people
in the 20th century ... not just monetarily, but in every other aspect of life. |
That's it for now. The above recommendations are just a few ways
you can improve your day and things you probably already know. Remember, making money FIRST
begins in the mind. Once you can think straight and not waste your valuable time and
energy worrying all day long, it'll be much easier to make money.
